Libraries helping libraries

The Library Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) wishes to embark on a book donation drive to support the Pop-Up-Library initiative of the University of the Bahamas Libraries. This book drive will benefit the children of The Bahamas who were directly affected by the recent catastrophic Hurricane Dorian in the Abaco and Grand Bahama Islands.

Under the direction of the librarians at the University of the Bahamas Libraries, the Pop-Up-Library would provide access to reading resources, story time and story sharing opportunities to children ranging from preschool to secondary education levels. Groups and organizations existing in the wider community will be invited to collaborate on this initiative and provide support for the libraries devastated by Hurricane Dorian.

In the aftermath of the hurricane, all the libraries in Abaco were destroyed and more than half of the population has been evacuated to Nassau where they now live in temporary shelters.

Amidst news of water damage, leaks, loss of supplies and materials in the Marsh Harbour Public Library, Abaco; Benjamin Laing Library, Pelican Point, Grand Bahama, Bahamas are reports that several community libraries were affected in Abaco and Grand Bahama and most school libraries were completely devastated.

The purpose for the fund raising effort:
To help bring relief to the libraries affected by the passage of hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. Your financial support of this initiative will help the libraries in the communities most affected to provide a meaningful service.
