The Library Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) is pleased to announce its Scholarship Programme for studies in Library and Information Science. A total of four (4) scholarships will be awarded for undergraduate and postgraduate studies commencing in September 2025.

The awards are as follows:

• One (1) Postgraduate Scholarship to pursue the MSc in Library and Information Studies via online learning at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus;
• Three (3) Undergraduate Scholarships to pursue studies at the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT)

These scholarships are designed to strengthen the professional capacity of library and information practitioners and to promote continued excellence and innovation within the field.

The scholarship covers tuition costs and carries expectations of academic performance, service commitment, and contribution to the work of LATT through presentations or publications. Successful candidates must enter into an agreement to serve the Association for a minimum of four (4) years.

On August 07th 2021, the library and information services fraternity lost Mrs. Allison Providence-Lange, Assistant Secretary of the Library Association of Trinidad & Tobago (LATT) and Account Executive (Caribbean), EBSCO Information Services, who passed away after a brief hospitalisation.

Allison, through her work with LATT and EBSCO, was able to work closely with many library and information services personnel throughout Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean and Latin America. Through her effervescent and dynamic personality, she was able to work with many libraries throughout these regions to support collaboration and lifelong learning.

To honour our colleague, LATT and EBSCO have re-established the Allison Providence-Lange Sustainability in Libraries Award, which seeks to expose an early career library professional or library and information studies student within the Caribbean region to the ACURIL conference.

This award emphasises the importance of attending professional conferences as a means of fostering career growth, expanding professional networks, and staying updated with global library and information science trends. By participating in ACURIL, awardees will gain valuable insights, build meaningful connections, and enhance their ability to contribute to the development of library services in the region.

Schedule C (page) of the Constitution of the Library Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) provides for the establishment of an Award for Meritorious Service to the Library Association. At the 2004 Annual General Meeting, it was decided that those guidelines would be used to establish the Lynette Lashley-Hutchinson Award, which would be given for
meritorious service. A monetary gift of no less than TT$ 500.00 would be given along with the Award.

“The Lynette Lashley-Hutchinson Award is a tribute to the long and dedicated to the library profession by one of its stalwarts; a founding member of LATT, President of LATT from 1971-1972 and former Director of Library Services of the Central Library of Trinidad and Tobago. In recognition of her sterling service to the library profession, Lynette C. Hutchinson A.L.A.,
F.L.A. was honoured in the National Awards of 1990 with the Public Service Medal of Merit.”
