Awards

On August 07th 2021, the library and information services fraternity lost Mrs. Allison Providence-Lange, Assistant Secretary of the Library Association of Trinidad & Tobago (LATT) and Account Executive (Caribbean), EBSCO Information Services, who passed away after a brief hospitalisation.

Allison, through her work with LATT and EBSCO, was able to work closely with many library and information services personnel throughout Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean and Latin America. Through her effervescent and dynamic personality, she was able to work with many libraries throughout these regions to support collaboration and lifelong learning.

To honour our colleague, LATT and EBSCO have partnered to establish the Allison Providence-Lange Sustainability in Libraries Award, which recognises outstanding work in library sustainability, including the implementation of green initiatives at the library; provision of additional resources to patrons via collaboration; information literacy initiatives; and the implementation or innovation of sustainable open-source initiatives within the library.

In recognition of their achievement, Allison Providence-Lange Sustainability Award winners will receive a monetary reward from EBSCO. The award is open to any library and information centres within the Caribbean region and will be presented at the ACURIL Conference yearly.

Schedule C (page) of the Constitution of the Library Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) provides for the establishment of an Award for Meritorious Service to the Library Association. At the 2004 Annual General Meeting, it was decided that those guidelines would be used to establish the Lynette Lashley-Hutchinson Award, which would be given for
meritorious service. A monetary gift of no less than TT$ 500.00 would be given along with the Award.

“The Lynette Lashley-Hutchinson Award is a tribute to the long and dedicated to the library profession by one of its stalwarts; a founding member of LATT, President of LATT from 1971-1972 and former Director of Library Services of the Central Library of Trinidad and Tobago. In recognition of her sterling service to the library profession, Lynette C. Hutchinson A.L.A.,
F.L.A. was honoured in the National Awards of 1990 with the Public Service Medal of Merit.”
